  • “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” premiered worldwide on Friday.
  • A clip of Beyoncé correcting her daughter, Blue Ivy, in the film is sparking a conversation online.
  • Fans are praising Beyoncé’s approach and use of gentle parenting.

A brief conversation between Beyoncé and Blue Ivy in the “Renaissance” film sparked a discussion about gentle parenting.

“Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” premiered worldwide on Friday, just two months after the eponymous world tour ended in October. The film chronicles Beyoncé, 42, and her team’s experience during the tour, which kicked off in May, by showing concert footage and behind-the-scenes moments.

In one scene, Beyoncé and her team discuss which songs should remain on the tour setlist. When a crew member suggested cutting Beyoncé’s 2008 song “Diva,” Blue Ivy, 11, immediately began advocating for the fan-favorite tune.

As Beyoncé and the team member continued the conversation, Blue Ivy continued to interject, prompting Beyoncé to acknowledge her eldest daughter’s pleas.

“You’re going to have to take it down a few notches,” Beyoncé told Blue Ivy.”

Blue Ivy tried to advocate for “Diva” further, but Beyoncé explained that it’s rude to interrupt people when they’re mid-conversation.

“Listen,” Beyoncé said. “I appreciate your opinion, but you’ve got to calm down. You can’t cut people…” she continues as the scene cuts to the singer performing the song onstage.

Ultimately, “Diva” was added to the setlist, prompting some fans to praise Blue Ivy’s intuition on social media. Others discussed Beyoncé’s approach to parenting Blue Ivy, applauding her for using gentle parenting.

Gentle parenting is an approach rooted in showing children empathy, respect, understanding, and healthy boundaries, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The medical center added that gentle parenting also relies on parents having age-appropriate expectations for their children.

The parenting style has gained traction recently as influencers advocate for it on TikTok and parents move away from authoritarian parenting styles.

“See how Beyonce used gentle parenting the correct way,” one person wrote. “You acknowledge your child’s feelings while also establishing a clear boundaries with a firm tone. Gentle parenting isn’t letting your kids get away with murder like some of you.”

Another added: “Beyoncé is an elder millennial raised by Boomers. It’s giving gentle parenting with a dash of “don’t play with me.”

One user added, “People are saying Blue didn’t do anything wrong to Beyoncé. Parenting isn’t just about correcting kids when they are wrong. It’s also about teaching kids to communicate in an effective manner. This was a lesson on business etiquette.”

Fans of the mother-daughter duo were treated to several appearances during the Renaissance World Tour. During the film, Beyoncé revealed that Blue Ivy got permission to dance onstage during a concert in Paris.

Her appearance was supposed to be a one-off surprise, but after seeing negative comments about her performance, she trained and performed alongside her mother throughout the tour.

Beyoncé applauded Blue Ivy’s work ethic in the film, calling her daughter “fearless.”
